Cleaning and resealing a deck at least once every one to two years helps to protect the timber and avoid damage caused by constant exposure to the elements.  And for those who have been tempted to use high pressure cleaners, may also need to sand before you seal.

Unsealed wooden decking planks absorb moisture from the atmosphere causing the fibres of the wood to become susceptible to mould or fungi.  Moist and rotting wood when heated by dry and intense QLD sunshine becomes brittle and friable.  The problem is greatly exacerbated after several cycles of moisture and dryness.  Signs of the problem become very clear when the planks turn a greyish light brown colour.  Before the wood is damaged past the point of restoration, it is better, and cheaper, to sand & reseal your deck.
